This section of the Carers Link website is for those who care for someone who experiences mental ill health. You can read a summary of this information within our leaflet by clicking on the image to the left.
When you first find out that a person close to you has a mental health problem it is common to feel shocked, scared or overwhelmed. Caring for someone with poor mental health often entails offering much more emotional support and encouragement rather than practical support, and you may struggle to think of yourself as a Carer. However, the term 'Carer' applies to anyone who looks after someone who cannot manage without additional support.
Providing this support can place many demands and stresses on Carers, but there is help available both to you and to the person you care for to achieve the best possible quality of life.
