Poor mental health can affect anyone, at any time of life, and for differing periods of time. Mental health problems affect the way people think and feel, and how they behave. One in four people in the UK have a mental health problem at some point in their lives that affects their daily life, relationships or physical health.
Whilst many people will therefore go through a period of mental ill health and distress at some point in their life - triggered perhaps by a life changing event such as bereavement, relationship breakdown, redundancy etc – for others having poor mental health can be severe and quite incapacitating, requiring additional support.
