A young Carer is a child or young person (up to the age of 18) whose life is affected by looking after someone with a disability or a long term illness. Whilst some young Carers may provide significant amounts of care to an adult, many are also involved in providing support to a brother or sister. There is a local organisation for young Carers and a national website:
- Young Carers Network East Dunbartonshire – 0141 777 3172 – provides groups and support for young people, teenagers and 16-18 year olds
- Young Carers Net – interactive website for information, support and chat
- Sibs is the UK charity for people who grow up with a disabled brother or sister. They have specific pages for young siblings as well as for adult siblings and parents.
