Become a Volunteer

Stage 1 - Have an informal chat with Sharon

Chatting with Sharon, our Peer Support Co-ordinator (Volunteering) gives you the opportunity to ask any questions and discuss the range of volunteering opportunities with Carers Link. You can either:

  • Telephone Sharon on free-phone 0800 975 2131
  • E-mail Sharon
  • Leave your details on our on-line questionnaire

If possible, we will then arrange to meet for an informal chat, at a time and place to suit you.

Stage 2 – Complete an Application Form

Once you chat with Sharon, you will be provided with an application form. The form is not a test nor do you have to fill all the information lines. The idea behind the application form is to give Carers Link as much information as possible to enable us to get to know you and to place you appropriately.

Stage 3 – We will check your References

On the application form we ask you to provide the details of two people who are willing to fill out our reference questionnaire. We ask for this because these people should know you well and provide a good indication of what skills and attributes you have. They will also be asked to comment on such things as reliability, punctuality and your ability to work with others.

Stage 4 – Complete a Disclosure Form

As part of our recruitment process, you should complete a criminal declaration form and an enhanced disclosure form. Please do not worry about this process, as Carers Link must ensure that all staff and volunteers complete this procedure to ensure the safety of our clients, staff and Volunteers. Having a criminal record would not necessarily stop you from volunteering, as this would depend on the nature of the voluntary role, together with the circumstances and background of the offence. More information is contained within our Recruitment Policy.

Stage 5 – Attend our Information Sessions

Volunteers are required to attend Information Sessions. There will be conducted in a very informal manner and at a time to suit you. The Information Sessions will include: Information about Carers Link and the issues affecting Carers; Communication skills, Confidentiality, Do’s and Don’ts etc. It is hoped that you will enjoy these Sessions, as they will be very informative and interactive.

Stage Six

Congratulations - You will now be able to start volunteering!
